Searching: Following are several ways of searching Bible citations, from the easiest and least precise, to more complex and precise.
KEYWORD OR PHRASE: Indexes all words in the database.
KEYWORD OR PHRASE: mark
(Finds publications about the book of Mark, but also articles by author Mark Elliott, title The mark on the door, etc.)
SUBJECT: Indexes words in subjects only. Use this search to find particular languages, versions, or treatments of the Bible. Also use to find all publications about a particular book of the Bible (both the entire book and specific chapters/verses).
WORDS IN SUBJECT: bible and good news
(Finds publications about the Good News version of the Bible)WORDS IN SUBJECT: kings
(Finds publications about the books of Kings. Also finds other subject phrases such as Divine Right of Kings, King's College, etc., but does not find "kings" as part of the author, title, etc.)
SCRIPTURE CITATION: The most precise option; searches scripture citations only (citations for specific chapters and verses).

For books with First or Second, the "1st" or "2nd" follows the book name.

We recommend searching just by book, or book and chapter. However, you may try searching by verse (but see example below carefully). Omit colon. Use hyphen when searching a range of verses.
WORDS IN SCRIPTURE CITATION: mark 1 1-15
(Finds scripture citations for Mark 1: 1-15; does not find citations for verses within the range, such as Mark 1: 5-10 or Mark 1: 13)
Browsing: Browse by Scripture Reference to view an index of scripture citations in alphanumeric order. In this index, scripture citations are filed by Book, Chapter (CH plus 3-digit number), and Verse (V plus 3-digit number). Examples:

If you want to research passages in a range of verses, you can select and combine several entries from this list. Note that most of these entries are so specific that they apply to only a few publications. For example, if you are interested in chapter 3, verses 2-7, select all of the following:
