AUTHORS (.AU.): Name(s) of those responsible for the work being cited. Names appear in inverted order, with a surname followed by first name and/or initial. All words are indexed. TITLES and PUBLISHING INFORMATION

ARTICLE OR BOOK TITLE (.TI.): Title of the article, chapter, book, or or other document being cited. For documents published in languages other than English, TI contains the title translated into English.

JOURNAL TITLE (.JN.): Title of the journal in which the cited article appears.

BOOK TITLE (.BKTI.): For book chapters, BKTI contains the title of the book in which the chapter is published.

ORIGINAL TITLE (.TT.): For documents published in languages other than English, TT provides the original, non-English title. This field occurs only in records created starting in 2001, so searching with this field retrieves only recent publications (roughly, documents published in 2000 or later).

APPEARS IN / PUBLISHER (.AP.): For chapters and books, AP contains the publisher name and location.

SUBJECTS

SUBJECT (.SU.): Terms assigned by the database producers from the Thesaurus of Political Science Indexing Terms, to describe the subject matter of the document. With the SU qualifier, you may search either individual subject words or multiword phrases. Personal names are given in direct order (first name, then last name).

CLASSIFICATION CODE (.CC.): A numeric code for the subject category (classification) of this document. This field occurs only in records created starting in 2001, so searching with this field retrieves only recent publications (roughly, documents published in 2000 or later).

ABSTRACT (.AB.): Omit stopwords when searching AB.

ISSUE NUMBERING

VOLUME (.VO.): Volume of the journal in which the article appeared.

ISSUE NUMBER (.NO.): Number of the issue in which the article appeared.

PAGINATION (.PG.): If you know the starting page of an article but not the full citation, searching with PG might be useful. Enter the starting page and the truncation symbol $.

CODES

ACCESSION NUMBER (.AN.): Record control number assigned by database producer; unique to each record in the database. Searching by AN is a method for returning directly to a record that you have retrieved previously.

PUBLICATION TYPE (.AT.): The type of document being cited. Search either a word or the 3-letter code, but note that some word searches (e.g. "book" and "review") apply to several different publication types.
