From 1973-2000, BioethicsLine covered the ethical, legal and public policy issues surrounding health care and biomedical research. Topics included euthanasia and other end-of-life issues, organ donation and transplantation, allocation of health care resources, patients' rights, professional ethics, new reproductive technologies, genetic intervention, abortion, behavior control and other mental health issues, AIDS, human experimentation, and animal experimentation. Citations were derived from the literature of law, religion, the social sciences, philosophy, and the popular media as well as the health sciences.
BioethicsLine was produced for the National Library of Medicine by the Bioethics Information Retrieval Project of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics (KIE), Georgetown University, Washington, DC.
NLM discontinued BioethicsLine in 2001. Beginning with 2001, all journal article citations produced by NLM are incorporated into MEDLINE. Therefore, search MEDLINE for journal articles on the subject of bioethics. For books, audiovisuals, and other materials, consult the NLM catalog, LOCATORPlus.
